The Experience
By registering for this Rising Star Academy Production, your cast member will participate in a fast-paced and fun education in musical theatre: singing, dancing, and acting while working toward a culminating production of The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition.

Through full cast and small group rehearsals, cast members will receive training in acting, singing, and dance technique. They will learn theatrical terminology and etiquette, and they will build confidence and explore their creative side in a brave, encouraging, and challenging environment. At this level, we are focusing on character physicality, proper vocal technique, and increasing precision and performance in dance.
At the end of our rehearsal time together, cast members will showcase their learning in a fully produced production with costumes, sets, props, lights, and special effects!
About The Wizard of OZ
L. Frank Baum’s beloved story of a young girl’s adventure in a magical land has been entertaining audiences for over a century. MGM’s blockbuster 1939 film adaptation, featuring the timeless songs of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, along with the brilliant instrumental music of Herbert Stothart, elevated the popular novel to even greater heights. This stage adaptation, featuring the characters and celebrated songs from the film, brings the wondrous Land of Oz to life in a jubilant theatrical experience.
Join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz, determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Of course, along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees and winged monkeys. But most importantly, she befriends three unique characters: a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man with no heart, and a Lion with no “nerve.” Their journey to happiness – and self-awareness – is a glowing testament to friendship, understanding and hope in a world filled with both beauty and ugliness.
Tuition & Other Costs
Tuition for this production experience is $140 per cast member. This production fee will include two months of rehearsal, a cast t-shirt, production materials, and the production script. Financial assistance and payment plans are available. Please email parker@gckidsonstage.org for info. If you have more than two children participating from the same family please email parker@gckidsonstage.org for more info about our siblings discount.

Due to the participation cost associated with our program compared to the high cost of producing a production, several fundraisers are required of the cast. Parents may pay a buy-out fee of $250 in lieu of participating in the planned fundraisers. You can read more about the planned fundraisers for Wizard of OZ: Youth Edition here.

Most costumes will require a costume fee for cleaning, alterations, rental fees, or materials. These fees will be sent with the costume breakdowns for each cast member.

Tickets to the performance will be available to parents for purchase prior to the public sale for $10 each.

Auditions
No experience is needed to participate in this Rising Star Academy production. While everyone receives a role in this Rising Star Academy Production, auditions are still held to place each cast member in the perfect role for them.
Auditions for Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition will take place on Sunday, January 12th, from 2:30-6:30 PM at the Greene County Wellness Center.
After registering for the production, an email will be sent to the parent/guardian with instructions for accessing the scenes & songs needed for auditions. They will be asked to sing, dance, and act using materials provided ahead of the audition.
At home practice for these auditions will be super important because we want cast members to be confident with the material and also perform their very best. However, remember that everyone will get a role in the end. We hope these are low-pressure/low-stakes experiences for our Rising Stars!
